The IMX568-AAMJ is a Type 1/1.8, 5.10 MP monochrome CMOS image sensor for FA and ITS cameras. It combines a square-pixel array with a global shutter and variable charge-integration time, providing a defined acquisition approach for systems that capture moving subjects or operate with controlled exposure timing.
Its individual technical identity is based on Pregius S technology. Sony combines back-illuminated sensor construction with stacked signal processing while retaining Pregius global-shutter pixel technology. This architecture supports a small chip size and high sensitivity, alongside the image quality characteristics of its global-shutter pixels. High sensitivity and low dark-current characteristics further distinguish the sensor’s monochrome imaging profile.
For system development, the sensor provides a recommended recording resolution of 2448 × 2048 pixels and reaches up to 96 frame/s in 8-bit all-pixel scan mode. CSI-2 serial output is available in two- or four-lane configurations. All-pixel scan, 1/2 subsampling, 2 × 2 FD binning, and ROI modes support different readout strategies without changing the sensor platform.
The IMX568-AAMJ is also IEC 61508 SIL 2 Ready certified. This is relevant to teams assessing components for SIL-rated safety applications, although system-level functional-safety compliance remains a design and validation responsibility.
A Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 safety function is expected to have a relatively low probability of failing dangerously when it is needed, according to IEC 61508. It gives camera and system developers a documented sensor component to incorporate into their functional-safety engineering process.
SIL 2 is common in applications where a failure could cause serious injury or significant equipment damage, such as industrial process plants, chemical and oil & gas facilities, factory automation, railway signalling, power generation systems.
Product applications
The IMX568-AAMJ supports monochrome image acquisition in factory automation and intelligent transport systems. Its global shutter is relevant where the scene or camera is moving and image timing must be controlled through variable charge integration. The approximately 5 MP format, high-sensitivity characteristics, CSI-2 output, and selectable all-pixel, subsampling, binning, and ROI readout modes give engineering teams options when balancing image detail, acquisition speed, and data throughput.
